A Stunning, Record‑Breaking Mardi Gras for the Rett Community

What happens when an extraordinary community, a breathtaking new venue, and a powerful mission come together? An unforgettable night filled with joy, momentum, and magic. On February 21, our Rett village gathered at Baldoria on the Water for a Mardi Gras Fête that exceeded every expectation—and together, we made history.

From the moment guests arrived, the energy was electric. Music filled the room, colors shimmered, and excitement buzzed in the air. This was not only our most visually stunning Mardi Gras to date, it was also our most impactful—raising more than $80,000, nearly double what we raised last year, and the highest total in the history of this event. Every dollar raised supports families impacted by Rett syndrome and the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

A Show‑Stopping Setting

Baldoria on the Water was transformed into a dazzling Mardi Gras celebration, bringing the spirit of New Orleans fully to life. The décor was bold, vibrant, and joyful—layered with rich purples, greens, and golds, dramatic lighting, elegant tablescapes, and playful carnival details that made every corner of the space feel alive. Guests were immersed in the theme from the moment they stepped inside, creating an atmosphere that felt festive, elevated, and bursting with energy.

As a new location for RMRA’s Mardi Gras Fête, Baldoria proved to be a perfect fit. The waterfront views, open layout, and polished ambiance offered the ideal backdrop for gathering our village to celebrate, connect, and give back.

An Evening That Sparkled with Purpose

The evening was led by Drew Carney of 9NEWS, who recently joined the 9NEWS Morning team and is new to Colorado. Drew shared how honored he was to be part of RMRA’s Mardi Gras Fête and how much he appreciated the warm Colorado welcome from our Rett community. His enthusiasm and genuine engagement set the tone for the night and kept the energy high throughout the program.

Drew also took the lead on one of the most exciting moments of the evening—the Heads & Tails game. Fast‑paced, interactive, and full of laughter, it brought guests to their feet and completely energized the room. Cheers and suspense filled the space as the crowd narrowed, ending with one lucky winner taking home an incredible 7‑night stay at a Mexico resort. It was fun for all and a perfect example of how this event blends joyful engagement with meaningful fundraising.

Guests enjoyed a full New Orleans–inspired experience throughout the night, beginning with creative signature cocktails, followed by passed hors d’oeuvres and a Creole‑inspired dinner. Bourbon Street‑style desserts and Café du Monde’s iconic chicory coffee provided a festive and indulgent finish to the meal.

Stories, Music & Meaningful Moments

The heart of the evening came through powerful glimpses into the Rett community. A spotlight video honoring Rett families set the stage for meaningful remarks from our own Dr. Timothy A. Benke, Medical Director of the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado, who shared how community support continues to expand access to care and reduce wait times for families.

Guests were also deeply moved by a personal perspective shared by Frances Tinsley, whose words served as a heartfelt reminder that behind every celebration and every dollar raised are real families whose lives are shaped by this community’s generosity.

Adding to the emotion of the night was a beautiful musical performance by Colorado‑based singer‑songwriter Meghan Clarisse Cave, creating a moment of reflection and connection amid the celebration.

Let the Fun Roll

After dinner, the celebration shifted into full party mode. Guests tried their luck at casino gaming tables with exciting prizes, filled the dance floor as the music picked up, and captured joyful moments at the photo booth. Laughter, movement, and celebration flowed throughout the space, keeping the Mardi Gras spirit alive well into the evening and making the night as fun as it was meaningful.

A Record‑Breaking Show of Generosity

The excitement carried through the online and live auctions as paddles rose and final bids were placed. The generosity in the room was inspiring, culminating in an extraordinary milestone: more than $80,000 raised—nearly double last year’s total and the most successful Mardi Gras Fête in our history.

These funds directly support the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado and the families who rely on it for specialized care, advocacy, and hope.

With Heartfelt Thanks

An event like this does not happen without incredible dedication behind the scenes. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our amazing Mardi Gras committee: Scott Henley, Heidi Hedges, Lori Schroath, Ursula Webhofer, and Justin Allen. Your time, creativity, and commitment were instrumental in making this night so special and so successful.

We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, speakers, performers, and every guest who showed up with heart and generosity.

We Are the Village

As the evening concluded with dancing, laughter, and celebration beneath dazzling décor, one thing was undeniable: this community shows up—and when it does, incredible things happen.

We hope you’ll save the date and join us again next year as we return to Baldoria on the Water on February 21 for another unforgettable Mardi Gras Fête. We cannot wait to do it all again with this amazing village.

With gratitude and excitement,
Carolyn Shaw
