A Successful Community Education Day 2025
On October 25, 2025, the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado hosted its Community Education Day, bringing together families, clinicians, and advocates both in person and online. The event aimed to make high-quality information accessible while creating space for connection and support. The morning opened with research updates from Dr. Tim Benke, who shared current findings in MECP2 and CDKL5, followed by Dr. Margarita Saenz’s clear overview of the genetics commonly seen in the clinic. Together, their presentations helped families understand the scientific landscape and how ongoing research may translate into future care.
Clinical care and practical guidance were woven throughout the program. Elise Darrow from the Anchor Center spoke about Cortical Visual Impairment and supporting therapies, while dietitian Laura W. addressed gastrointestinal and nutritional needs. Presenters encouraged families to view therapy and medical management as evolving partnerships shaped by the child’s changing needs. Emi Yau highlighted the importance of AAC in ensuring every child has a voice, and Vivian Yoon offered compassionate guidance on navigating home health services, palliative care, and hospice as layers of support rather than endpoints.
The day concluded with a communal lunch with an abundance of guacamole that allowed families share experiences, to speak directly with clinicians and continue conversations sparked during the sessions. Throughout the event, the emphasis remained on empowering families through knowledge, clarity, and community. Community Education Day 2025 reflected the Rett Clinic’s ongoing commitment to pairing scientific progress with compassion, ensuring families feel informed and supported at every stage of care.
